The Slovenian Institute for Vocational Education and Training is a public institution founded by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and co-founded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia and the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia in 1995.

In accordance with the basis provided by the Organization and Financing of Education Act (Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia, No 12/96), the Institute conducts research, development and consulting, and is a place where the state interests and social partners meet, harmonise with one another and connect within the field of vocational and technical education.

The following are the Institute’s main areas of operation:

  • studying development trends in the labour market and preparation of occupation profiles as well as competently conceived occupational standards,
  • development of methodologies and preparation of modern, module-based education programmes for pre-secondary and secondary vocational education and secondary and college expert education,
  • monitoring the process of the introduction of education programmes, evaluation of final examinations and vocational matura and development of new methodical and didactical concepts of knowledge, learning and teaching,
  • training and improvement of knowledge in teachers, professionals and mentors in the framework of vocational and technical education, and provision of professional support and counselling to providers of vocational and technical education, 
  • stimulation and coordination of various development and innovation projects in vocational and technical schools,
  • development of modern education tools and education technology,
  • participation in professional organisations and EU networks dealing with vocational and technical education,
  • management of the National EUROPASS Centre, 
  • representation of Slovenia within the European Skills Promotion Organisation (ESPO) and at the EUROSKILLS competition in vocational skills, 
  • promotion and encouragement of vocational education,
  • National Reference Point for quality assurance in the field of vocational education SIQA-VET
  • By preparing development and professional solutions, the Institute will raise the quality and appeal of vocational education and training. By doing so, CPI contributes to the competitiveness of the national economy as well as to the social inclusion of the Slovenian population 
  • Cooperation in Lifelong Learning projects as well as in new Erasmus+ activities.

CONFAO – Consorzio Nazionale per la Formazione, l’Aggiornamento e l’Orientamento - is a National Consortium for Educational and Vocational Training, Up-grading and in-service training and Vocational Guidance, joining together many different Secondary Education institutions and Vocational Training centres throughout the National territory of Italy.

CONFAO was founded in 2007 with the aim of establishing a great circuit of innovative experimentation and supporting, even though with a local management approach, the national dimension of the educational system.

It collects a significantly representative part of the VET system and provides a strong support to the associated institutions in line with the changing environment of Secondary Education, since its role is to help them managing the challenging innovation and reform processes.

Specifically, CONFAO develops European, National and Local projects and initiatives aimed at:

  • Supporting the associated institutions in their commitment to raise the quality of human resources in the national VET System in order to face the challenges of lifelong learning, and therefore awareness raising about EU Strategies on Education and Training;
  • Training and updating VET Staff and Professionals, such as School managers, headmasters, teachers and trainers about different issues, such as: the effects of personalization and finalization of learning and, in particular, on the didactical planning of competences-based teaching with a laboratory approach; promotion of experimental initiatives concerning the organization of learning with attention to the different implementation formulas for alternation training between the theoretical and practical dimension and, more generally, between school and work;
  • Participation and involvement of the associated institutions in European research and mobility projects
  • Development of training tools and methodologies for entrepreneurial key competences in education and training
    CONFAO brings together in absolute prevalence Public Institutes of Upper Secondary Education (96%), with a limited presence of vocational training institutions (4%), whose distribution on the national territory is represented as follows: 24% in the North of Italy; 13% in the Center and 63% in the South and Islands. All the fields of studies of Secondary Education are represented in the consortium, from Tourism (12%), general education/Lyceums (12%), Commercial services (11%), Mechanics and Electronics (7%), to Buildings and Environment (7%), Health and Social services (6%), ICT and graphics, Chemistry, Handcrafts and Industry, Agriculture and rural development (3%), Fashion, etc..

CONFAO, has developed and activated some ICT tools, specifically:

  • A simulator of Training Enterprises (practice firms) to support the implementation experiences of alternation training in a simulated environment and to support the development of entrepreneurial skills (
  • An e-learning platform for the training and upgrading of educational staff (school managers, teachers, trainers and teaching staff) through which the associated members can access a rich library of  the tools, materials and training and / or refresher courses for specific subject areas such as, for example, training on safety, competence-based teaching, teaching laboratory, the organization of alternation training, etc ... (

The International Centre for Studies in Tourism (CST), founded in 1982, is one of the best established tourism management schools in Italy and offers services including training, up-dating technical assistance, research to all the public and private entities operating in the industry.

Together with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Perugia, CST has promoted the institution of the degree programme in Economics of Tourism, one of the first such experiences realised in Italy, contributing over the years to its development.

It operates in the field of professional and managerial training, on the undergraduate and post-graduate level, aimed at students and tourism operators, as well as in research, consulting and technical assistance on the main topics regarding the tourism industry.

It produces marketing plans, development and promotion plans for communities that intend to invest in tourism as a driving force of the development of territories.
